To commemorate its 70th year of trading, one of the world’s leading teddy bear makers, Clemens-Spieltiere, recently extended its range by adding the ‘Peter’ bear – named after the founder’s son.
Known for quality, attention to detail, and safety, Clemens has been making teddy bears since 1948 in post-war Germany. Originally from Alsace, Hans Clemens lost everything in the war and so pilgrimaged to Mannheim, Germany where he opened a shop selling glass, porcelain and gifts – but it was the Teddy Bears that proved most popular.
Originally handmade by his sister from old army blankets, the demand for the bears grew and so Hans started a company, enlisting employers in order to extend the range and to include other plush soft toys. Son, Peter Clemens eventually took over the business but handed over the managerial side to Ren Lee in in 2002 in order to concentrate on developing new designs for their collection.
For over 30 years AM International Agencies Limited have been the exclusive agents and distributors for Clemens Bears as well as many other world-famous German toy and gift companies including the famous Reutter Porcelain. They are also suppliers of the UK’s oldest bears, Deans Bears.
Mark Eckersley, Managing Director stated, “Our mission is to provide our customers, mainly based in the United Kingdom and Ireland, with the highest quality porcelain gifts, toys, collectables, souvenirs, wooden toys, educational products, teddy bears and soft toys.
